Flying Fish, a leading producer of touring museum and science centre exhibitions, has announced that its new immersive touring exhibition OceanXperience, created in partnership with OceanX, will make its debut this June.
The exhibition was developed and is being toured internationally by Flying Fish, and it is based on the OceanXplorers television series produced by OceanX and BBC Studios Natural History Unit for National Geographic. Visitors can experience the wonders of distant ocean exploration through breathtaking immersive experiences and interactive technology while aboard an interactive replica of the OceanXplorer, the world’s most cutting-edge research and filmmaking vessel.
An interactive experience
This innovative experience, which will open in June 2023, uses video taken during OceanX’s research missions to lead guests on a mission-based trip of their choosing. Onboard the OceanXplorer, they will take part in important research and work at interactive stations to finish their mission objectives. These assignments closely mirror how the Xplorers function and carry out research in the OceanXplorers television series.
Throughout the exhibition, visitors can engage with traditionally presented material, take part in side missions, and more. The exhibition will appeal to all of the senses thanks to an interactive HoloLab experience and a 360-degree theatre showing powerful cinematic scenes of unexplored parts of the globe.
OceanXperience is visitor-friendly, even though it has a high-tech feel to it. The interactives and technology were created to further the exhibition’s mission and educational objectives. Only 3–4 staff members or volunteers are required to host this one-of-a-kind experience, which is ideal for participants of all ages and technical skill levels. The Flying Fish team is always connected to the display remotely to ensure minimal downtime of the interactives.
Earlier this year, Jay Brown, principal and managing director of Flying Fish, spoke to blooloop about the upcoming exhibition, as well as the firm’s ‘For Museums, By Museums‘ ethos.
