Imagineear, an audioguide and multimedia content specialist offering a full range of advisory and interpretation services, has contributed to Between Real and Surreal, a temporary retrospective celebrating the work of American photographer Rodney Smith at the Palazzo Roverella in Rovigo, Italy.

The exhibition includes over 100 beautifully composed yet hauntingly surreal images created by the artist between 1971 and 2014.

They are accompanied by an immersive audio guide that allows visitors to delve deeper into Smith's distinctive world.

Between Real and Surreal opened in October 2025 and continues through to February 2026.

A tribute to the artist's vision

Imagineear created an original Italian-language narrative based on the stories and reflections Smith regularly shared on his popular blog.

This first-person perspective is accompanied by exclusive interviews with Anne Morin, curator, and Leslie Smolan, executive director of the Rodney Smith Estate.

A key consideration was to avoid distracting guests from the work on display while allowing their imagination to take flight. In response, Imagineear combined storytelling with subtly evocative music and soundscapes to offer a playful, dreamlike, almost filmic experience.

The company's multimedia content offers a rare insight into the creative mind of one of America’s most iconic photographic talents, which honours his vision by reflecting his humorous yet precise style.

"Thank you for the awesome work on this exhibit," says Smolan. "The audioguide brought Rodney's life and work to life on a very deep level. It's a privilege to have such talented people share Rodney's talent."

Recently, Imagineear created an audio tour for the Jewish Museum Curaçao, marking the museum's first audio tour and the first produced in the Dutch Caribbean.

Imagineear worked closely with the Jewish Museum Curaçao, the Anne Frank Foundation, and local partners to design and deliver an experience that brings Jewish history and culture to life for today's audiences.

This year, the company also celebrated the opening of Grayson Perry’s Delusions of Grandeur exhibition, for which it created an audio tour experience in collaboration with the Wallace Collection.
