Universal Studios Hollywood has started testing the track of its new Fast & Furious roller coaster, due to open at the California theme park in 2026.

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will be the fastest coaster in the Universal portfolio with speeds of up to 72 mph. It is also the park's first-ever high-speed outdoor coaster.

Universal Studios Hollywood has begun test runs for the new coaster, which boasts a state-of-the-art ride system.

Guests will race along 4,100 feet of elaborate track, built with sound reduction technology, on fully rotational ride vehicles designed to look like iconic cars from the Fast & Furious film franchise.

The 360-degree rotating ride vehicles will provide the sensation of drifting cars as guests travel across the aerial track.

Scott Strobl, executive vice president and general manager of Universal Studios Hollywood, said earlier this year: "Watching the progress of this incredible roller coaster come to life is truly spectacular."

He added, "Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will be a powerful game changer for Universal Studios Hollywood that will not only transform the topography of our destination but will infuse an entirely new level of adrenaline to our already dynamic theme park."

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is located on the Upper Lot of Universal Studios Hollywood. The queue experience will be situated within a garage-like structure.

With 11 films, Fast & Furious has earned more than $7 billion at the worldwide box office, making it Universal Pictures' most profitable and longest running franchise.
