iQIYI VR immersive theatre

New experience inspired by hit series Love Between Fairy and Devil

Chinese streaming service iQIYI has announced it will launch a new VR immersive theatre at the Galaxy Macau integrated resort (IR) this summer.

Created by iQIYI Dreamverse Studio, the virtual reality (VR) experience is inspired by iQIYI’s hit series Love Between Fairy and Devil.

“With deep roots in Eastern mythology and traditional culture, the blockbuster original IP Love Between Fairy and Devil holds significant cultural value and has garnered wide market acclaim,” said Hang Zhang, senior vice president of iQIYI.

“By leveraging VR technology, we can further extend the long-tail value of this original IP, bringing Chinese culture to life in a modern way that resonates with a broader audience.”

The project is part of iQIYI’s expansion of its location-based entertainment (LBE) portfolio. It comes after previous VR experiences in China, including one based on drama series Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty 2: To the West.

Streamers expanding LBE experiences

iQIYI’s latest LBE venue is enhanced through innovative technology like interactive gesture control and flight motion simulators.

During the immersive experience, guests will find themselves in an ancient world where they solve puzzles and follow exciting storylines. They will also discover a zone for dressing up in traditional Chinese clothing, as well as themed photo opportunities.

American streaming service Netflix is behind LBE experiences themed to Squid Game, Bridgerton, Stranger Things and Money Heist

The company is now launching US-based immersive destinations where fans of its original TV shows can shop, eat and play games.

In a press release, iQIYI said it “plans to further collaborate with partners to explore new forms of offline entertainment on a global stage and enhance the value of its original IPs for a wider audience”.
