Seafront to be regenerated after closure of Coney Beach Pleasure Park

Following the recent closure of Coney Beach Pleasure Park, a new lido swimming pool and funfair rides are planned for Porthcawl in south Wales.

The proposed regeneration of the waterfront area comes after the amusement park closed in October following 107 years of operation.

The project includes a lido and gym, and new funfair rides "to create iconic seafront landmarks and celebrate Porthcawl’s heritage".

Additionally, it includes a fresh seafront look with space for a hotel and a new promenade for Coney Beach.

Also, the plans include 45 percent more public open space, community facilities, routes for walking and cycling, and homes.

The proposals for the 38-hectare site have been developed by Bridgend County Borough Council in partnership with the Welsh Government.

Other attractions that could feature include a splash pad, mini golf, a pump track, a multi-use games area, pocket parks, fitness trails, community gardens, and children's play areas.

These would all be lined by a network of paths and routes for pedestrians and cyclists.

The plan includes opportunities for new shops, cafes, restaurants, bars and kiosks, and plenty of open space for festivals and events.

Council leader John Spanswick said the project "represents a hugely significant piece of work which has been many years in the making".

It also "reflects our determination to strike the right balance between housing and community facilities, tourism and leisure, opportunities for enabling new businesses to thrive and more", he said.

The next stage of the project involves carrying out a pre-planning application consultation on the final proposals.

This is scheduled to take place between November 2025 and January 2026.

The final plan will be made available here, and a public event will be held at the Hi Tide in Porthcawl on 25 November.
