Thorpe Park’s new coaster was closed one day after its 24 May opening

Hyperia, the UK’s fastest and tallest roller coaster, has reopened at Thorpe Park in Surrey. Tickets to the park today (12 June) are already sold out.

Thorpe Park’s new coaster was closed just one day after its 24 May opening. It was scheduled to reopen by 8 June, but the launch was delayed until today.

In a post on X this morning, Thorpe Park said it has limited attendance “to ensure everyone has the best experience on Hyperia’s reopening day”. Tickets for today are already sold out, it said.

“If you do not have a pre-booked ticket please do not travel to the park. Tickets will not be available for purchase upon arrival,” Thorpe Park said.

The park confirmed the reopening of Hyperia on social media late yesterday (11 June). “She may have needed a momentary pause after the most epic of launch events, but she’s back in full flight and is ready and waiting to help you find your fearless,” it said.

“Once again, we want to thank everyone for their understanding and patience. Now it’s time to forge your wings of steel, conquer the seemingly impossible and embrace your inner fearlessness onboard the UK’s tallest, fastest and most weightless roller coaster, Hyperia,” Thorpe Park added.

Hyperia is manufactured by Mack Rides. It reaches a maximum height of 236 feet and speeds of more than 80 mph.

UK’s tallest and fastest coaster

Now that it has reopened, Hyperia has replaced Thorpe Park’s Stealth as the UK’s fastest coaster, and Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s The Big One as the UK’s tallest.

Owned and operated by Merlin Entertainments, Thorpe Park is now home to eight coasters, including Swarm, Saw – The Ride, Nemesis Inferno, and Colossus.

Earlier this year, the iconic Nemesis coaster reopened at Alton Towers as Nemesis Reborn following an 18-month transformation.
