World’s first permanent outdoor Pokémon attraction opens next year

The Pokémon Company has unveiled its new PokéPark Kanto theme park in Tokyo, Japan, which it plans to open in early 2026.

Combining nature and interactivity, the 26,000-square-metre Pokémon park will be the world’s first permanent outdoor Pokémon attraction.

Located in a corner of Yomiuriland, Tokyo’s largest amusement park, PokéPark Kanto will be home to more than 600 Pokémon for guests to discover.

The destination is named after Japan’s Kanto region, where Yomiuriland is located. Additionally, the 1996 Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green video games are set in a fictional area named the Kanto region.

The park has two immersive zones. One of these is called Pokémon Forest, described as “a spacious wilderness” featuring “hilly paths, tall grass, tunnels, rocky trails, and more”.

600+ Pokémon to discover

In this area, guests will get to observe a wide variety of Pokémon from Kanto and other regions, including Pokémon “that tower high overhead and others that hide underground or behind greenery”.

Another zone called Sedge Town will feature the Pokémon Trainers’ Market for shopping, as well as the Pokémon Center, Poké Mart, Sedge Gym, a Pokémon parade, and two other attractions.

Yomiuriland and the Pokémon Company previously collaborated on a nature-driven experience called Pokémon Wonder where visitors searched for hidden Pokémon.

Situated on 48,000 square feet of untouched forest behind Yomiuriland, Pokémon Wonder offered two courses of creatures made from items such as leaves and acorns.

In more news, immersive art company Meow Wolf has partnered with Pokémon Go creators Niantic Spatial to expand its universe via augmented reality (AR).
