Universal Orlando is opening a new Minions-themed attraction called ‘Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast’ in summer 2023.

Inspired by Illumination’s Minions franchise, the family-friendly attraction is part of Universal Studios Florida’s new Minion Land.

It will join Despicable Me Minion Mayhem and the new Minion Café. During the interactive blaster game experience, guests will compete against each other.

Villain-Con Minion Blast “combines innovative screen technology, state-of-the-art gaming interactivity and elaborate physical sets to create a one-of-a-kind, game-based adventure where guests encounter immersive environments, nefarious villains and tons of mischievous Minions from Illumination’s films in a whole new way”, said Universal Orlando.

Guests are transported to Villain-Con, the world’s biggest criminal convention. They will take part in a competition to become the newest member of The Vicious 6, a group of supervillains from Minions: The Rise of Gru.

Visitors use interactive blasters on a motion-based pathway. They “wind and glide through various scenes”, earning points by blasting various objects and “causing as much mayhem and destruction as possible”.

“It’s a unique, mischief-filled experience that’s so much fun, it’s a crime,” added Universal Orlando.

Additional information about Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast and Minion Land will be revealed in the coming months.

In more news, Universal Orlando is closing five attractions in the KidZone area of Universal Studios Florida to make room for “new family entertainment” inspired by “beloved animated characters”.

NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell has also confirmed that construction on the new Epic Universe theme park in Orlando is on track for a 2025 opening.

“We’re right on track, literally right on track. We expect to open it in 2025,” he said.

“I was down there a couple of weeks ago and everything’s coming out of the ground,” added Shell. “So all the infrastructure is in, a lot of the steel is in, and now it’s just a question of building [it] out.”
