Alterface, a leader in interactive technology, has been selected to design a new interactive dark ride for Parc Astérix in France.

The new attraction will be part of the park's major new expansion, Londinium, which is set to open in 2028. The classic comic, Asterix in Britain, serves as inspiration for this new themed zone.

Iconic IP

Parc Astérix had a defined vision from the outset. It aimed to create an attraction that is fun, straightforward, and accessible to audiences aged 4 and up.

The experience seeks to be lighthearted and non-violent, capturing the recognisable humour and spirit of the Asterix universe.

This combines its distinctive wordplay and anachronisms with playful references to British culture.

The interactive experience also needed to be fast, smooth, and high-capacity.

Alterface, experts in crafting intuitive and joyful interactive experiences for the whole family, was appointed to bring this vision to life, drawing on decades of expertise in interactive design, gameplay dynamics, and guest behaviour.

The Belgian company's approach to interactivity — intuitive, responsive, and seamlessly integrated into the ride — lets guests dive straight into the fun without needing instructions.

Laurence Beckers, creative director at Alterface, says: "We’re thrilled to collaborate with Parc Astérix on such an iconic IP.

"You have to realize that in Belgium, the comic book universe is a cultural institution. It is part of our heritage. We fell into it when we were little, just as Obélix fell into the cauldron of potion.

"Working for this license is an incredible opportunity for us!"

Colour, humour and charm

The ride will include six interactive scenes where visitors use 'magic potion gourds' to take part in a series of playful, carnival-style challenges inspired by Gaulish mischief and British eccentricity.

With a joyful, chaotic, and energetic tone, the experience plays with British stereotypes to create jokes and anachronisms that reflect the comic book.

The progressive gameplay starts with more static scenes for easy handling and gradually builds layers of depth through games of skill and reflex.

The competitive scoring system is designed to encourage repeat rides as guests try to beat their own records, and includes visible scores, hidden bonuses, and scenes with multiple levels of discovery.

Setting the ride apart is the combination of three rich universes, with Astérix's humour, the colourful festivities of a funfair, and London's unmistakable charm.

Earlier this year, Alterface enjoyed an exceptional week at IAAPA Expo Europe, where it was honoured with significant industry awards, explored exciting new opportunities, and launched promising new creative partnerships.
