Legoland Florida is laying off 234 employees, mostly from its entertainment team, according to a 28 January notice sent by operator Merlin Entertainments.
The layoffs will begin taking place on 25 March and continue through 7 April, the notice to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity states.
It also reveals that most of the staff affected at the Winter Haven theme park are entertainers or entertainment support staff.
The notice says the layoffs will be permanent. Job positions to be cut include performers, stage managers, technicians and others.
According to the notice, none of the employees affected are represented by unions, and Merlin has not given a reason for the layoffs.
“At Legoland Florida Resort we are making operational changes to help us elevate the guest experience in 2025 and beyond. This includes changes in how we deliver entertainment,” a Legoland representative said in a statement.
“The decision to reduce the size of some of our teams was undoubtedly difficult, but these changes will allow the resort to operate more flexibly and responsively in a competitive market.”
Merlin making “operational changes”
Located 45 minutes from Orlando and Tampa, Legoland Florida Resort is home to a Legoland theme park and a Legoland water park, as well as a Peppa Pig theme park, and three themed hotels.
The 150-acre theme park offers more than 60 rides, live shows and attractions.
Last year, Merlin Entertainments named industry veteran Franceen Gonzales as the new park president of Legoland Florida.
