“IAAPA Expo Europe is a showcase of the innovation and creativity that define the attractions and amusement industry. We are delighted to host this extraordinary event in the culturally rich city of Vienna and look forward to showcasing the best that our industry has to offer. IAAPA Expo Europe 2023 will undoubtedly set new benchmarks for the future of entertainment in Europe.”

Meanwhile, speaking to blooloop last month, Jakob Wahl, president and CEO of IAAPA said:

“IAAPA Expo Europe is the premier industry event in the region. Our goal is to be relevant. So, this will be an event that shows what is going on but also what is about to come. This is where the Expo Europe team has done a fantastic job in developing the event, for instance with the introduction of an Innovation Stage.

“It is our second biggest event and it has grown substantially over the years. Vienna is a wonderful city and I’m sure it will be a great experience for everyone who’s attending.”

A special host city and a grand opening for IAAPA Expo Europe 2023

IAAPA will celebrate this year’s host city, Vienna, in style, with its inaugural Host City Day on Monday 25 September. Three tours are planned to cover developments in F&B, retail, and the culture of business. The line-up includes a tour of Schönbrunn Palace, Austria’s most popular destination.

“One good thing about IAAPA Expo Europe is that we travel around. There’s always so much to learn from the host country or the host city,” said Van der Schans, speaking to blooloop.

“So, now we have the Host City Day, where we have three tracks – retail, culture and F&B. Everyone starts together in one room and then we go into the three different topics and explore, for example, the F&B insights that Vienna has to offer.

“Vienna is a wonderful city; there is a lot of culture. It’s also ideally located to connect Western and Eastern Europe, so it’s very accessible.”

Other scheduled events for Monday 25 September include Water Park Day, Indoor Entertainment Day, Safety Day and Sustainability Day. There will also be an EDUTour of Familypark.

Water Park Day attendees may be interested to learn of a recent tender opportunity in the city of Lelystad, the Netherlands. There are plans for a waterfront waterpark hotel development in this location. Investors, operators and developers from all over the world are invited to participate in the tender. More information can be found here. Attendees can also connect with Raymond Oude Groen to learn more or arrange a meeting with him during the show via email.

Regarding this year’s opening ceremony, Van der Schans teased:

“We’re going to do it a little differently this year so it will be more high-energy and fast-paced. It’s going to be an exciting way to start the Expo.”

ThisPlays International – booth #B-1214

ThisPlays International, a leading provider of photo booth products, will be attending IAAPA Expo Europe for the sixth year in a row. This follows a period of massive growth for the Holland-based company, which now has over 200 machines running all over Europe. The photobooths can be found in various zoos and attractions, and the company works with Disney, Merlin Entertainments, Parques Reunidos, Compagnie des Alpes, and more. ThisPlays also recently began working with several new clients in the cruise sector.

IAAPA Expo London ThisPlays

The firm attributes this rapid growth to three factors. Firstly, the revenue share-based model of the photo booths creates a significant new revenue stream for the attraction operator. The units require only a few square metres and a socket, and ThisPlays will handle the rest. Secondly, ThisPlays offers a hassle-free operational model, handling everything from design and construction through to maintenance and retheming.

Finally, because of the company’s focus on theming and concept, photos are shared on socials over and over again which means also a load of exposure for sites.

Mark van der Weide, This Plays founder and owner, says: “We update the content regularly in case of newborn animals in zoos, Halloween in attractions or new elements in an exhibition (museums). That makes a true difference in experience and sales.  This also creates the situation that 32% of all our sales come from annual pass holders who bought more than once at the same machine.”

Triotech – booth #A-1601

Triotech, an award-winning creator of media-based attractions, will showcase several attractions and rides during the event.

It has also celebrated several new attraction openings this year. In the spring, the eagerly awaited PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS attraction opened to the public at LOTTE World in Seoul, South Korea. Smash and Reload Le Pal

Valo Motion, a pioneer in combining interactive technology with physical activities, will present its complete suite of groundbreaking mixed-reality attractions—ValoClimb, ValoJump, and ValoArena—all together for the first time.

The unique advantage of Valo Motion’s offerings lies in the system’s architectural design. All three attractions are designed to function as an interconnected ecosystem within a venue, seamlessly integrated into a single operating system. This holistic approach embodies the firm’s core philosophy of active, social, and unattended play. Delegates can see how the attractions work together to provide a complete and diverse entertainment experience.

ValoArena - Astro Blade IAAPA Expo Europe

This year, the company expanded the Valo Motion universe with four new original game releases. This includes Astro Blade, the debut release for the ValoArena. Zamperla Adventureland Resort Junior Coaster

Cedar Point, known as “the roller coaster capital of the world”, is home to 18 world-class coasters. Zamperla’s Roller Coaster Business Unit has engineered and developed the new Top Thrill 2 to offer a unique ride experience. Top Thrill 2 blends the ride’s original and iconic top hat with a new 128-metre (420 ft) spike.

Earlier this year, it also celebrated the launch of two new rides at Adventureland Resort, Iowa. The park’s biggest-ever investment includes the addition of Draken Falls, a Super Flumez ride, and the Flying Viking Junior Coaster.
